AM AN RN NURSE IN KENYA , AND SINCE YESTERDAY I HAD A DIVERSITATING EXPERIENCE WHEN OUR BELOVED NURSES WENT ON STRIKE AT OUR ONLY BIGGEST HOSPIATL IN EAST AFRICA IN FACT KENYATTA NATIONAL HOSPITAL IS THE BIGGEST PUBLIC HOSPITAL IN KENYA ,
AT HEART I THOUGHT IT WASN'T GOOD FOR PEOPLE TO STIKE ESPECIALLY NURSES , WHO HAVE GOOD PROFFESIONAL CONDUCT/ ETHICS , BUT NOW I HOPE THE WORLD NOW UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS IMMIGRATION OF NURSES ABROAD BECAUSE WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS IS HEART BREAKING!! PEOPLE ARE DYING AND EVEN NO MORGE ATTENDANT IS COLLECTING THE BODY FROM THE WARD TO MORGE ,
THE RESON BEHIND ALL THIS IS POOR PAY !!!!!
WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR NURSING PROFFESION

I'm sorry this is happening. I have to ask though, is it just poor pay? A friend of mine is a South African nurse and she said they lose so many nurses to immigration (to the UK, Canda, USA, etc) that the loads the rest of them carry are just ridiculous. Increasing their pay may have done something to increase their retention and allow them to provide safer care to their patients. I realize Kenya may be completely different, but that just came to mind when I read your post. I see they have now called off their strike. I hope they are able to resolve their issues.
