The Committee for Recognition of Nursing Achievement (CRONA) union contracts had expired March 31. Both hospitals were still open Monday with replacement nurses, some elective surgeries had to be cancelled. Major issues: burnout, understaffing and need for mental health resources post dealing with stress from Covid patients care past two years.

The nurses say understaffing is leading to constant requests for overtime and insufficient support for their mental health....
