Do you think it is ok if a nurse or a doctor smokes? Because i know when i go to the doctors office with my boyfriend and he tells him that he smokes that he gos on and on of how he shouldnt be smoking at all. But then we go outside and see nurses smoking and such!! So what do you guys think?
Mercy, honey, don't waste your time here.....

Have you ever heard the saying, "The empty wagon, makes the most noise."?
well said.... hate the game, not the player, or hate the smoke, not the smoker :)
for me a ban on smoking would be cool. its just how we go about making it happen that concerns me. in reality this is not a issue for me. i go with what ever the majority says. reading this thread might make one think the majority is for no smoking, but currently the majority says smoking is ok. i accept that. like corvette guy said hate the smoke not the smoker, thats what it is about for me. giving crap to a smoker, yeah i do it, but only to those i know and dont take it as a attack. i still have respect for those that do take it as a attack and let them be. posting on boards always seems to go to extremes, in reality most are in the middle and give respect to everyones feelings, even if we dislike what they are doing.
i have seen nurses complain about another nurses smoking habits to a patient. trying to get the patinet to complain about it. now thats sad.
so is this statement coming from a open mind or a welded closed mind? think about it, who has the closed mind here. as i have said i am for a ban on smoking period. but support on banning it does not mean anyone should disrespect others that have a different view. its a free country and a democratic society, if the vote did not go your way no need to take it out on the individual.Mercy, honey, don't waste your time here.....Come back to talk on the Grownup side of the BB, and leave this alone.

"the empty wagon, makes the most noise." ture, and who is making the most noise on this subject. the non-smoker of course. have you ever voted for it? or got a petition going, lobbied administration or anything other than personal attacks on individuals? the focus should not be on the individual thats my point in case you did not get it.

I believe that carol was speaking of the almost frantic nature of froghair's posts, given the gigantic font and repeated posts when no one responded. I thought a simple one line statement would assure him/her that yes, the post has been viewed and apparently isn't going to draw a response (other than the one you so cleverly pointed out that I posted. What a wit.) It is not at all my opinion that most people accept smoking. Where I live, anti-smoking initiatives have consistently been successful at the ballot box, so clearly this middle ground of which you speak varies from group to group. So, in my case, the answer is yes, of course I've done something about my aversion to smoking. I have signed every petition for anti-smoking legislation that has ever been presented to me and I've casted my vote each time an initiative has been on the ballot.
We do not live in a democracy, we live in a republic society. The majority does not always rule.
:roll ... go smoke on the moon with the Lunar Republic Society :roll

You can insult me all you like but it does not change the facts.
Does this ring a bell? "I pledge allegiance to The Flag of The United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands"

I never meant to insult you... just trying to add a little humor into a serious Thread.
I agree, by definition [Merriam Webster] republic;
1] a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch & usually a
president
2] a government in which supreme power is held by the citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives governing according to law...
However, Merriam Webster defines democracy;
2] as a government in which the supreme power is held by the people...
Therefore, often times republic & democracy are thought of as one in the same, IMHO.
