Nurses Recovery

This all started for me three years ago... fired, horrified, sick, and just full of shame. I finally heard from the bon in September and signed in October. Two years, must work as a nurse, daily check ins, narc restriction for six months, no restriction on alcohol (got lucky just for my sanity there... Fearing every sauce, sanitizer, lotion, and ingredient would make me insane).

I have done my background check, continuing education, drug tests, refresher course, and submitting my reinstatement for my license and here I am. I submitted my application for reinstatement a month ago and... nothing. I am still listed as inactive and cannot apply for any nursing positions obviously.

So here I sit waiting.. Going to a non nursing job that I love every day knowing I am going to screw them all over when I quit. Quit to go work in some horrible facility that takes people like me. Is that last statement drama filled and prissy yes but I am sick of this ****! I was a damn good nurse who made serious mistakes and the last three years of my life have been feeling the effects of those mistakes at every turn. I am jaded and exhausted and I just started!

So why bother? Well getting on the OIG list for not adhering to the contract for one. My current employer checks all the employees by that database mostly! I loved being a nurse but I truly don't know if it has a place for me anymore.

Bless you! Hang in there- you can do it! Just think how far you've made it, I have to remind my self of that daily. As you know, I haven't heard a final from the BON yet.

When you can work as a nurse, check into dialysis.. I really like it. They are recovery friendly. Keep us updated! Hugs from Mississippi :-)

What is your non nursing job that you love? Maybe, just to comply with your contract, when you are able to work again as a nurse, you could work only part time so that you could keep your current job? My first job in monitoring was in home health, and I was able to control the number of patients that they gave me. I only worked part time (although they frequently tried to get me to add patients to my list!). I had time in my week where I could've worked another job if I'd wanted one, maybe not another full time job but def part time. In TPAPN (Texas) you have to work as a nurse for a minimum of 12 consecutive months and I think 96 hours/month, so that's only 2 shifts/week. Not like you really WANT to work two jobs! But if you want to avoid quitting a job you love, you might be able to do both. If you don't need the health insurance maybe you could do both part time.

I'm jealous!!! What state lets you drink while in monitoring?

Ohio. They are known for being very strict. I wonder if it is the three years of inactive status waiting I did, not talking to the investigator, or my "slight" offense of admitting marijuana use w no positive test.. who the hell knows. I can't really drink due to migraines anyway.

I am so grateful that I don't have to worry about hand sanitizer, sauces, hairspray...
