Question about drug screens

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hello!

quick question: I am a newly licensed nurse in the monitoring program. I am subject to checking in daily with my program and random drug screens. I am just curious how day shift nurses handle taking a drug screen on a day that they are working? Do you leave the hospital? Do it on lunch break? Test at the hospital? I am just looking for advice on how to handle this. To avoid this entirely, I told my manager to put me on nights. However, nights are NOT for me! I have always been the type to go to bed early and rise early. I can not sleep during the day or stay up all night to save my life! I want to switch back to days, but before I do so, I would like to hear how others have handled taking drug screens while being at work.

Check and see if your hospital is on the list of approved sites, if not you can request to add it :) I usually try and cram mine in my lunch break. Also, worst case I use patient first and pay the extra drop site cost since they are open til 10. Not sure if there is one in your area but it can be a life saver if you don't make it to the lab! And good luck in the monitoring program! Time goes by fast and as long as you do what they want it isn't too too bad :)

Yes, the monitoring really isn't that terrible. I have a little less than a year remaining. I'm hoping they allow me to test at work because that would make my life a lot easier! At worst, I guess i could just go on my lunch break!

Read your contract closely! My contract specifically says that I cannot test at my work. There aren't any after hour places near me, so I'm working weekend nights until I'm finished with my contract. It stinks, but at least I can work! Just trying to stay positive lol! Hope everyone has a blessed weekend!

Onerous is the word...up EARLY before the site opens to be first in line...yes there is always a line...to be to work on time...of course the powers that be...the for profit P industrial complex...make it so in no way could we check in the day before...sad but true...start getting up earlier.

I am in AZ and there is one 24 hour test facility.

I'm in PA. It sucks because I only have a few sites close to where I can go and they don't accept screens after 6pm. So to avoid getting stuck in rush hour I have to leave early. Its a big inconvenience to my employer.
