Finding a job advice

Nurses Recovery

Published

I'm finally applying places and landed an interview after being charged with a felony possession of controlled substance in a correctional facility when a hydrocodone fell out of my pocket and a misdemeanor charge for a hydrocodone pill they found in my car. With charges were obtained the same day after I was arrested for an outstanding moving violation warrant. The felony is expected to be dropped to a misdemeanor making both charges a misdemeanor. The board of nursing is aware of my pending charges but will not open an official case until I've been to court and my lawyers have informed me that that can take up to a year to happen. My question is how hard will it be to get a job with these pending charges? Does anyone have any advice to give that may help me land this upcoming interview?? I'm so nervous but I NEED to get back to work and doing what I love to do! It's been 6 months since I walked away from my previous job after getting these charges.

I think it depends on what state you're from... if pending charges would show up on a background check or not. I would ask your lawyer if it would show up. Try to get a safe job now that is more likely to work with you if your nursing license eventually gets on probation.

Nothing will show up on a background check until you have been convicted of a crime. I would go look for a job and just not mention it in an interview. Like the previous person said maybe try and find a job that will work with you after all is said and done. Most applications ask if you have been convicted. Answer no, because that's the truth. You've only been charged not convicted.

I agree, don't mention it! If you're lucky, you can be the best employee they've ever had and they won't want to lose you, so when charges actually come down they'll be willing to work with you to keep your job, if you've already proven yourself to them.

I am from Texas. I have been told that pending charges do show up. I can submit to hair follicle test at my own expense if they need it. I just really need to regain employment at this time. This has been the worst 6 months of my life.

I don't know if this is accurate or not but check out the below link and look towards the middle "ARRESTS AND TEXAS EMPLOYMENT BACKGROUND CHECKS"

Did you have your interview? How did it go?

Most applications ask if you've ever been convicted of a crime. Not have you ever been arrested. Just read the question on the application thoroughly.

I didn't get the job. I had another interview on Monday they said they were going to hire me and told me to be at orientation this Wednesday but called me and told me they'd decided not to pursue my application... When I asked them why she got rude and replied because we just decided not to pursue it. I am devastated. I was so excited to have a job again it's been about 7 months now since I've had a job. I feel like giving up. I know I am so much better than the mistake I made! I am a good nurse with no drug habit. I'm not addicted to anything heck I don't even like to drink because it makes me feel weird. I am not this horrible person that deserves unemployment because of one horrible mistake. Any words of encouragement?

I FOUND A JOB!!! So excited for second chances! Thank you guys for all your support í ½í¸Š
