Big hole in my heart right now

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hey.

I am still at the beginning of the monitoring program in my state and so, I still have about 2-3 months or so before I can even be considered to work in health care. I know there are the stressful days of nursing; but honestly, right now, I am experiencing a lot of heart ache because I miss nursing. I am a new grad, so I have not had an actual nursing job yet and I just got my license; but I miss being in the clinical setting and everything.

I get this feeling every time I have a non nursing job and also, now...when I can't be in it. I understand why but it doesn't make it feel any better. Just a tough time and needed to let it out.

So what happened? If you didnt have a job I am only guessing a DUI, if Im wrong sorry. Everyone of us in recovery has a story and we all have had to go through the process. You have a very long road ahead of you, but one that you can travel if you want it bad enough. What state are youin as each state is different. You will find support here, but staying clean and sober is your choice. Good luck and you will find us here when you need us.

No, no DUI. I was honest on my application for licensure with the Board of Nursing and disclosed my mental illness. My psychiatrist sent in the information and on the letter he sent in he disclosed my alcohol abuse and other information in the Axis format. The Board made a decision that I was approved but I have to do the monitoring program, including urine drug screens. Where I live, you have to be approved to work in health care and it doesn't happen until at least 3 months in the program. You cannot even fill out applications for a nursing job until you are approved because 1) you will potentially get kicked out of the program, if you do look for work without approval and 2) you have to send them a description on the job you want to apply for and they have to approve it.
