I found this article from an Ohio Newspaper while searching for Christmas nursing stories.
Nurses provide Christmas cheer in the neonatal intensive care unit: A Nurse's Journal
"Many people dream of spending Christmas inside a cozy home or perhaps in an exotic location like Hawaii or Bermuda, or maybe even on the ski slopes of Vail or Aspen, Colorado.
But I doubt that anyone ever thinks about spending the holiday at the bedside of their baby in a neonatal intensive care unit, like the one where I work......"
"Hospitals are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Someone is always working on Christmas. Nurses leave their families, Christmas trees, gifts, revelry and holiday tables filled with turkey, mashed potatoes and fruitcake. Sometimes it's very hard.
Perhaps that's why nursing is more of a calling than just a job. It takes a little bit more personal oomph to do the work and smile until you feel it in your heart."
Thanks to all the NICU nurses who take care of the precious little ones every day of the year, but especially on Christmas!
