Nurses from the old Oil City Hospital?

Published

This might be a longshot, but I was wondering if any of you PA nurses out there were ever (or know anyone) on staff at the old Oil City Hospital (now UPMC Northwest). I was a patient in Peds at the age of 4 back in January and February of 1982 and most of the few memories of have of that long 6 weeks are of my wonderful nurses. I am on my way to being a nurse now and just want to thank them (especially because they put pigtails in my hair and gave me elf slippers!)! :balloons:

Elf slippers sound really cool!

They were! :jester: Turned-up pointy-toes and all! Strange what you selectivly remember from that age.

i've lived in oil city all my life (48 yrs). i wish i could answer your question.

i just couldn't believe i saw this small town on allnurses. i will be starting lpn school in aug. maybe i could ask around.

Specializes in ICU, Agency, Travel, Pediatric Home Care, LTAC, Su.

I can't help you out with knowing any of the nurses. However, here is a thought. IF Oil City has a newspaper, which I am not even sure they do, you could always write a letter to the editor.

Specializes in Cardiac Surg, IR, Peds ICU, Emergency.

The 'old' Oil City Hospital is no longer a hospital. It was largely closed down back in the early 90's under much protest and drama during a merger of sorts with the hospital in Franklin...which was then purchased by UPMC. Then just a few years ago, a new hospital was built by UPMC in Seneca, combining most of the services of the two campus's. I think Oil City may have a few vestigal services, i.e. a couple physician offices, maybe some dialysis, and mental health. No other in-patient acute care services otherwise for about 15ish years.

I originally attended nursing school at Clarion/Venango, and knew two of the ED RN's, and a mental health RN from OC.

Darren,

Thanks so much for your (long ago) reply! I haven't looked at this post since the first positive reply! My entire family is still in the area, so I was aware of the "merger" and the protests. It was sad to see it go. As a small town girl (born in Oil City/raised in Clarion), I can see where people didn't want the "big city" hospital corp to take over! Myself and both of my siblings were born there and taken care of by Drs. Weiner and Clark. However, I was also saved again in my teens at Childrens (Pittsburgh). After out growing peds, I've had 6 more abdominal surgeries from the first (my last resulting in waking up to an NG tube and the knowledge that I had to have an emergency bowel resection because of adhesions).... UGH!

I still watch the Clarion News and The Derrick Online! It sure beats the depressing stuff in the USA Today!

I just drove past the "old" hospital last year when I had to go to Oil City High School for a District Choir concert that my sister was in and I told my husband, "that's where I was born!" For a city person, that hospital sure seems like an eternity away from rural Clarion, but that's where my parents used to trust for "expert care!" That, and my mom used to work for First Seneca Bank as a manager and would drive from Clarion - wow, I'm dating alot of us here... I'm done! :balloons:
