Saw it asked in another form about nursing shortage about polling to see how many nurses are not working as nurses anymore, how long they worked as a nurse before quiting the profession. And what it would take to get them back to nursing.

I can't answer your poll because I'm still practicing. But just off the top of my head, I can think of a number of nurses I worked with who've either left the bedside or quit nursing altogether. For years, our particular unit had a more stable and experienced staff than most of the other floors; now only one of that 'core group' of nurses is left and there's been a revolving door over the past couple of years with nurses coming and going within a few months. It wasn't low pay that drove them away.
