Nurses with ear piercings

Published

Hello,

I want to be a nurse when I finish college. I'm currently a senior in high school. I have 5 more years until I graduate college/ become a nurse. I already have 4 piercings on my ears. I want 3 more (second lobes and 1 more cartilage (helix)). Is it frown upon that I will have 7 piercings or should I stop? I also want a tattoo on my finger (not sure about it, but the size will be smaller than a quarter). But is it acceptable tho?

thanks

I think you will be just fine. I got my nose pierced at 53...to commemorate my new start in life after the love of my life died (after 30 years of marriage). I am rather conservative in my views, and it shocked my friends...but my nursing instructors, who were my age and older, thought it was adorable

We could have pierced ears, maybe 2 on one side, no tats that showed, we had a male student that had a tattoo on each wrist, he was made to cover them up so he put a bandage around each wrist, that caused other issues. Nursing supervisor was frustrated with this guy. Bottom line, you want to look professional and show less of your personal life to patients. We had another 2 nurses that had their tongues pierced, they had to remove them if they wanted to keep their job. A local hospital was having some kind of audit, lots of dignitaries were there, a volunteer working at the help desk was loaded with tattoos, she was fired from her volunteer position after being there for 6 years! I think it's best not to if you have to question it.
