Nurses who are also Veterinary Techs

Although an awesome idea, the unfortunate part is, with out a vet on premises, the only things a tech could do would be simple kennel type work, grooming and medicate with drugs already scripted by the vet, possibly including subcu fluids. Anything outside of that, wouldn't be allowed without a doctor order. I have a few friends that do this and they only make enough to use it as a side job. People expect to pay next to nothing for veterinary services from a vet, let alone services from a vet tech. Pet insurance is starting to help veterinarians a little, but I don't see this helping techs.

First, I am not talking "high tech need a vet order" type of stuff. I am talking

about having someone stay with him for a few hours so I can do errands

with the peace of mind that he is not alone due to medication and care (like

a short walk for BR break.)

Not everyone expects to or pays next to nothing for vet services. We have paid

quite a lot in the last few years and most recently the last few weeks for

specialists. There is no magic wand to take away the dx, but we are very

happy with the team of specialists/primary vets who are helping us.

And we are happy to pay both the vets/staff for their expertise.

Like I mentioned to the poster above, there needs to be more like you out there, because unfortunately with most prices for any type of veterinary services people simply complain, complain and complain.

The veterinarian that I worked for was the one who suggested I look into nursing school. Worked for him all through school and even after being hired as a nurse for a while. I always joke that I went into nursing because I like animals so much more than people! Same reason I could never do Peds.

That is how I started also! If the money were even comparable I would have stayed although the opportunities and scheduling options with human nursing are way better.
