Hello nurses,
I am reaching out to the public for advice or recommendations/suggestions for my twelve-year-old son.
Background: My son played soccer from five to eight years of age. The reason why he stopped playing is that one morning he suddenly woke up with severe pain in his left knee. After that day he was never the same and had on and off pain. One day I picked him up from school he started crying and couldn't move so I called the nursing advice line and gave them all the information about his pain and signs and symptoms and they told me to f/up with the doctor which I did. When at the doctor's office he ordered an x-ray which the result stated normal findings. I requested my son to have an MRI done because something didn't seem right. The doctor then referred me to the specialist and eventually, an MRI was done. Throughout this process let me just say that both the doctor and specialist didn't seem to put much effort into finding the cause of what was causing my son's pain. They kept telling me, oh it may be growing pains and it should go away on its own. Since the doctor ordered an MRI on the left hip the MRI findings results indicated my son had hip synovitis. I asked the ortho specialist what causes this and he just stated a virus and that it should go away on its own. His pain increase and went back to the doctors and told him the specialist had not given him any medications and he had hip synovitis. Then at that point, he looked at his results and said he had slightly high levels of inflammation. He prescribed him Naproxen for 7 days with Omeprazole. He completed the dose and he was pain-free for a few months until it came back again. I continued to follow with his doctor and was told to give him ibuprofen when his pain arises. Now I'm just fed up and need some help, please. I beg you all if you have a good pediatrician that can see my son, urgent care, whatever..... He started again last month May 2021 with an increase of pain from 5.5-7 pain on his left knee. My son described the pain as if something behind the knee cap is poking.... I told all this to the doctor when I went back to the doctors office furious because this issue has been ongoing for three years now. I requested all the tests done and to be seen by a different specialist because the last one didn't help at all. The doctor referred him and waiting for the appt in 2 weeks. He also gave him Naproxen once again and to give it only for pain. I gave it for three days and his pain decline to 2 out of 10 and has been a little better. He looks pale though and I have been giving him beets with carrots and spinach juice daily hoping to help in some way. The doctor ordered the lab test, X-rays and these are the results from the laboratory:
ABNORMAL from the report...
WBC 9.1 ---> HIGH (4.0-8.8 normal range)
RBC 4.42 --> LOW (4.50-5.90 normal range)
HEMOGLOBIN 11.0 --> LOW (11.5-16.5 normal range)
HEMATOCRIT 34.9 --> LOW (38.0-49.0 normal range)
MCH 24.9 ---> LOW (27.3-33.4 normal range)
EOS 3.4 --> HIGH (0-3 normal range)
PLATELET COUNT 441 -->HIGH (150-400 normal range)
URINALYSIS CHARACTER --> TURBID
SPECIFIC GRAVITY ---> 1.031 HIGH (1.010-1.030)
ACETONE --> TRACE
ESR (WESTERNGREN METHOD) 29 ---> HIGH (0-20 normal range)
Everything else was either negative or normal levels
Please I know nurses are patients advocates and this is why I am reaching out to you all!! Anyone who can tell me what these results may indicate and what to do for my son or where else to take him.
God bless your hearts ❤️
