Utah nurse reaches $5, settlement in dispute over her arrest for blocking cop from drawing blood from patient - The Salt Lake Tribuneheck yeah!!!!! She deserves every penny and then some. Completely unbelievable what happened to her.

She might deserve it, but do the tax payers deserve to have to pay it? I'm torn. I think I'd rather see proper disciplinary action towards the individual(s) involved then a huge pay out where no monetary loss has occurred.
People respond to losing money, it's all about the bottom line. An "apology" and sacking the police officer would not deter other units from doing this as much as the chief realizing that their department needs to get its *%*# together and make sure their officers don't do the same in other cities.
im actually a little surprised at the number. I thought it would be a lot more!

People certainly respond to losing money, but the department is not the one losing ...they'll collect what they need to function from tax paying citizens- the amount of the settlement included.

since they can not take from the unionized cops, perhaps a % should come out of the chief's salary. when he/she got to 0, things would change.
