Nurse will not give report

Published

Hello

I need some advice on how to handle a nurse that will not give me a report when I come on to work. I work in homecare. When I come in and I'm parking my car. She pulls  off. I text her and ask her for a report I get nothing. I can't read her nurses note as well.

This coworker does not like me at all. Due to no fault of my own. I'm just tired of the unprofessionalism with this nurse.  Im.ready to go to my supervisor. She doesn't have to like me but she needs to give  report on the patients night.  How would you handle this?

Since you've tried to handle the situation yourself, it is time to bump it up the chain of command.

I would tell the supervisor.

A report off is required by the board of nursing to guarantee continuity of care. I would definitely go up the chain of command.

This is now a patient safety concern, you must inform your supervisor / manager and let them know you have tried XYZ avenues of communication to no avail.

Report to the charge nurse, supervisor, or manager--follow the chain of command.

You should get the important reports you can't read on their charts.

Hello,

Please report your concerns to the supervisor. If the nurse is pulling out of her parking spot as you pull in, who is monitoring the patient?  Safety for the patient and safety for you as the licensed caregiver. Thank you for all you do.

OP is Not giving the whole story there.  saw this elsewhere and there is more to it. It is a Home health type setting and the rules are totally different there. Often written report is the policy or report is given to family there. Other ways too. So it really depends on the policy. Is OP used to working in a facility and expects person to person report but that is not the policy for this position? Need to know what the rules and policies are for your job.
