Nurse-to-be Needs Advice!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello friends!

I have recently been accepted into my nursing program in Orlando, FL. I am so excited to begin this adventure and be on my way to becoming a nurse. Since the moment I received my acceptance letter, I have been beaming! :geek:

I have so many questions! Thank you for taking the time to read this. I can't wait to be a nurse! :nurse:

Any advice about nursing school, clinicals, or being a nurse in general would be greatly appreciated. Do's and don'ts are always helpful. If you have an experience from your journey to becoming a nurse that you wouldn't mind sharing, please do! I know this path won't always be easy. If you have any advice for the rough days, that would be great.

What type of watch do you prefer? Are there certain watch features that are essential?

What type of shoes do you prefer? - I know good shoes are essential to the longevity of my back and feet.

What type of stethoscope do you use? I really like the Littman classic 2 and the classic 3, but perhaps other brands are better?

Thank you so, so much in advance. Any information at all is helpful.

This may be on the nerdy side but I night a used pebble smart watch and i love it. I have analog watch faces for taking respirations and there are even nursing apps for the watch which are handy for taking vitals wearing a gown. I've bought klogs and am not as happy with them as I was with the Birkenstocks I wore for years as a chef. I have a 25 dollar MDF stethoscope and love it. It's light and they come in cool colors. Works as well as the 50 dollar MDF and Littmann stethoscopes.

Thank you so much!

I have the littman cardiology III stethoscope and I love it. People want to borrow it all the time because you can hear so well with it. The people who bought the ones that weren't littman had a hard time hearing stuff with them.

I love my Danskos too. I didn't know they made a sneaker. But I also have small and narrow feet. But I never feel that my legs or back are hurting after 12 hours on the floor.

A cheap watch that is not digital and counts seconds is fine. I bought mine at Walmart. Relax and enjoy your summer.

Thank you!!!! I have been torn between the classic 3 and the cardiology 3. I think I will go with the cardiology 3 though. My only concern with the cardiology 3 (I don't have any idea how to use a stethoscope) is that maybe it would be too advanced? Like maybe it would be harder for me to learn because it's more advanced. Is this a legitimate concern or is the learning process the same? Thank you! :geek:

I thought the learning was the same, but where many of my classmates can only hear S1 or S2 sounds, I can pick up the S3 and S4 sounds, those extra ones like if there is a murmur. I was able to distinguish those much better. The sound is very crisp and clear. Mine is purple with a rainbow bell so I would not lose it. My name is also engraved.

Love you excitement and enthusiasm! Its so refreshing. Best piece of advice my medsurg teacher gave us was "if you're always flexible, you'll never get bent out of shape" I try and live by that. Keep up your excitement even when the days get rough. Always ask for feedback, even if it's not always positive. Best of luck!

Does anyone recommend a type of shoe that is not a clog? I tried the Dansko Clog like many people recommended; however, I can't wear such a tall heel. I have really really bad/weak ankles. I need a shoe that is flat with great support. Any suggestions? I tried the Dansko tennis shoe but it was awful and surprisingly had no support. My shoes have to be leather and all white.

Thank you!
