Nurse thinking about going back for an MBA?

Published

I’ve been a bedside nurse for 7 years now and have been thinking about what my next step in my career is. I’m not entirely unhappy with nursing, but would like the opportunity to try something new and maybe step away from nursing for awhile. I was thinking about going back for an MBA, but specifically to be able to open up more opportunities for me outside of nursing. If anything, I still can fall back on nursing and have the ability to climb in that field.

Has anyone done this? I’d love to hear your experiences! I’ve been told that your opportunities to branch out are also related to which MBA program you go into, so I’ve been looking into a lot of Ivy League full time programs.

I’d love to hear people’s feedback!

Met an LVN through a home health agency early in my career who, as I recall, had an MBA from an Ivy League school.  She told me it was her plan to open her own home health agency (or another healthcare based business). Lost touch so I don't know if she kept on track.
