Nurse Researcher?

At the beginning of the semester I had the full intention to become a nurse. However, I realized throughout my A&P class that I'm pretty good at learning about the body as well as crave more than what the class teaches. So far I have a 97% in the class and the lab experience I have had has really made me curious about a field that is more research orientated than actual 1 on 1 patient care. I like the idea of being a nurse but I'm wondering if there are fields out there that nurses participate in strictly the research and not so much the bed side patient care. So now I'm wondering if I should drop the nursing path and work towards a biology or microbiology degree because I'm really into research. Anybody heard of research nurses or anything of that nature? THANKS!

nurses carry out research all the time. You really get your hands into it in the Masters level and then elbows deep at the PhD level and post-doc level.

check your school's library. There are lots of nursing research journals out there.

I am in a BSN program, we have an entire class on research and I am participating in a study right now on how nursing students learn and if there is a more efficient way. If you look into the university you want to go to, you can find out if it's a research school (Most of the major state schools are.) And the previous poster is right, you really get into research at the master, PhD levels.
