Nurse professor & drug testing

Just wondering if Nursing Professors get drug tested. Not hard core drugs but recreation marijuana.

I suppose it would depend on your employer. My university favors a "drug free workplace," so yes - there could be random testing. In many states and from a Federal perspective, marijuana is just as illegal as "hard core" drugs. I suspect schools that receive Federal funds may follow that drug-free philosophy.

Routine drug testing is not common. In fact, I have never heard of it actually being done. It is hard to imaging that a university would have routine testing of its faculty -- as generally, university faculties are big on freedom, social justice, etc. However, some non-university-based school might do something like that.

At my hospital, students, and clinical faculty must sign a statement saying that they would be willing to take a drug test if we request it. But we don't actually test anybody unless they give us reason to be suspicious.
