Hi everyone I graduated from my MSN FNP program in september 2016 and passed my boards in November 2016 and still have not being able to land a job as a FNP. Its already been about 4-5 months and I am struggling get any type of experience I can to get my foot in the door as a new graduate NP. I do not know any doctors currently looking to hire nor have I had any clinical rotations in offices that would consider hiring me as a new NP. All i have been told throughout my MSN program by every preceptor was to try to go into the hospital and get more experience as an RN. However, I am over qualified and underqualified to work in the hospitals as I only have Home Health experience.. What do you guys recommend the best way to get job NP in my situation. I dont want to lose hope and leave a career I am so passionate about and have always dreamed about working in.

Best advice: network. Join your states APRN organization, go to CME (many hospitals offer free CME).

With the online factory pumping out more and more NPs this is becoming commonplace. If you live in an area that is saturated with NPs you may think about applying to more rural areas, the places that people do not want to go. I know a few newer NPs who travel 1-2hrs for their first job. Some areas around here require 2-3 years experience just to get an interview so that leaves out all the new grads. If you are open to relocate to some areas of the country that are in need it should be easy to find a job, but not everyone can pick up and move...

good luck!

My sister just finished her NP, and she can't even get an interview. She is in a major metropolitan area in the south.
