First job...what do you wish you would've looked for?

As I find myself staring at graduation in the next few weeks (still unbelievable that it is finally here!) AND being in the fortunate position of contemplating two different job offers, I thought it would be good to ask those of you who have "been there, done that" for any and all advice on things you WISH you would've looked for in a first job. What mattered most to you? Bigger bucks, bonuses and big practice? Or a more patient centered environment, great mentors all around you (including physician and NPs) and a supportive environment with a flexible schedule but maybe less bucks?

Dish out the advice!

I'm 6 months into my first NP job, and I'm very glad I passed over the big bucks-high pressure position (which included every other week on-call) for a lower paying position where I have tremendous support from the other NPs and MDs. It's tough enough being a new NP without any added pressure. When I was in school, faculty and preceptors said over and over "find a job where you will be supported and encouraged to ask questions-the big bucks can wait a bit". I'm glad I took their advice.

Good luck in making your decision.
