Nurse Practitioner Test Advice

Hi Everyone

I need some advice please. I am currently in a Nurse Practitioner program and I am in my last year...prayers.

I recently had a midterm and I got the lowest grade in the class. I have beaten myself over it and I have really started to study. My final is not until the middle of December. I am not saying that I did not deserve the failing grade, but now I have to kick myself in Gear.

I have about 60% of the class left and I know I can pass. My anxiety is killing me and my self criticism is killing me. I just wanted to know what anyone has used for a Review book? I currently have 2 Fitzgerald and Leik.

I also work full time, have a family, clinical, and have to travel to school once a week. I understand working and going to school is crazy, I do not need advice on that.

I really need advice and maybe some constructive criticism. If you could please help me on test taking strategies or anything I would be so so grateful! Thank you!

Have you tried talking to the instructor of the class you are struggling in? Go through the mid-term exam with them and get feedback, this will help clarify what your weak areas are and what areas you are actually doing fine in. Are there specific study aids the instructor recommends? Are you friends with other students in the course? What are the students who are doing well in the course doing to study?

Also work on getting your anxiety and negativity under control - high anxiety makes cognitive processing more difficult - the more you stress the less you retain. Easier said, than done, but finding ways to relieve stress and making time for them can help your school performance. Are counseling services offered through your employer or through your school? It may help to have some one brain storm with you on ways to reduce anxiety and make adjustments to allow for more productive studying.
