I am completing my BSN in nursing at the present time and I was wondering if anyone had any words of encouragement for going on into the master's program for my nurse practitioner. I always thought that one day, I would like to be an OB nurse practioner in a clinic but I am not hearing of too many opportunities from experienced coworkers. The nursing shortage is also putting a halt to my decision because of some of the poor working conditions at the present time. If anyone has a nurse practioner license or know someone who does and really enjoys what they do, let me know.

Go to work first. Perfect your clinical skills. Develop working relationships with other nurses and practitioners.

newlin, good for you to consider continuing in school right away! I am back in school

for my BSN after ten years of experience in cardiac medicine (I was a diploma grad) and I wish I had gone back sooner. I plan on continuing through my MSN and then EdD. Go for it! While it is sage advice to learn your craft and get settled into your career, as maikranz suggests, surely you can take one class a semester? Studying is a skill too, and you may lose your knack if you take too much of a break. (Can you tell what challenged me in the beginning?) wink.gif Good luck to you and God Bless.

Defintely go and get your MS or MSN and become an advanced practice nurse. Some programs that are worth looking into are Vanderbilt, Georgia State and Medical University of South Carolina
