my nursing class is conducting a survey regarding job stress. we would greatly appreciate your response to the following questions.

6. has the nurse to patio ratio ever caused you to feel stressed?

My capacity is House Supervisor.

Nights and 12 hour week-ends

1 nurse to 10-12 patients

Both

LPNs take same as RNs but are limited as to what they can do

1 CNA to 10-15 patients. Has been as high as 20

Is 5 the highest you can go?

Patients complain often. A lot of them mail or phone in their complaints.

Give you all that crap they learn in management classes.

1) peds trach/airway unit

2) days

3) usually 3:1, occasionally 4:1

4) CNAs, no LPNs

5) usually 1 CNA for the unit (up to 16 pts), sometimes no CNA

6) 2, rarely

7) 2, rarely

8) 1 when I'm on my unit, 4 when I have to float to other units with higher ratios

9) trying to hire more nurses, block beds and not accept additional pts if not enough nurses to cover for nights, sometimes increase pt load, have charge nurses take some pts, float nurses to or from other areas to help cover

2 cnas to 27 patients, we rarely have lpns but when they work it is with one nurse and generally anywhere from 6-9 patients
