Hi,
Wondering if anyone has read or heard if there is a mandated or recommended RN/RPN to patient ratio in long term care?
Wondered if there was something with College of Nurses of Ontario?
Thanks

I don't think there is a mandated nurse to patient ratio in LTC in Ontario but I may be mistaken. I know that unions have long been lobbying the government to increase the hours of care provided to each resident which would in turn increase the need for more staff, but this has not been approved by provinical government.
Interesting question though.

Right now I'm in Winnipeg at the Workplace Integration of New Nurses- Nursing the Future conference. Yesterday we were told that Saskatchewan is poised to become the first province to have established nurse-to-patient ratios. I can't remember what the time line for this is, but they're very excited.
I can't imagine that it isn't mandated soon - sometimes I think it is a dangerous situation.
