Hello,
I was wondering what the path would be if I were to become a nurse then decide I wanted to be an OB?
Is there less school involved since I am already a nurse (BSN) ?
My ultimate goal is to become a midwife. What if I become a midwife then decide to pursue OB? Would that be a waste of time? Should I just go straight for OB? How long would it take?
Thanks in advance for your comments/suggestions!

To become an obstetrician is 4 years of undergrad and 4 years of medical school, plus internship and residency. You don't get to skip years if you're already a nurse, but your BSN would count as undergrad. So, you would return for 4 years of medical school plus internship and residency after nursing school.
A midwife is 2 years of masters degree plus a Bachelor of science in nursing.
Midwives do not perform C sections and generally manage healthy pregnancies and deliveries. It would make the most sense to become a midwife if you're an RN, unless you're dying to do those things.
Midwives and OBs are not different points on a spectrum, one does not (usually) continue on to become a doctor after being a midwife. If you want to be an OB, Skip nursing and go to med school.
Thank you! Makes so much sense now. I do not care for C sections or anything like that so I think I will just pursue Midwifery. Thank you for your advice!
You're welcome! Best of luck in the future!
