nurse market in Vegas

Published

Im an 23 year ER nurse in chicago , I have applied to multi hospital in Vegas and to no avail , no return calls. Does anyone know what the job market for experienced nurses is in Vegas. What is all the talk about UMC closing , is this just a threat or is it acutally going to happen? Thanks I would appreciate anyones input on my questions and concerns. Thanks Bryan from Chicago

Bryan,

I work in a large ER here in Vegas. The market for experienced ER/Critical care RNs is strong. If you are local. The places you are applying might be hesitant to interview you due to your out of town status. The Human Resources departments out here are a bit whack too (losing resumes, not forwarding your resume because you don't meet certain criteria - ie you do not have a local home address, etc.). Your best bet is to contact the ER RN Manager for each hospital you want to possibly work and just speak with them. The manager can in turn have you resubmit your resume and have it "flagged" so that it goes directly to their desk. The ER managers around here never get to see the resumes unless they meet certain criteria and/or are "flagged" by them. They just sit in the black hole of the HR dept computer system. As for UMC, I really do doubt they will close their doors. They are the only county facility in southern nevada and as such I'm sure all will be done to keep those doors open. Hope this answers your questions.
