Hi All! I am a team leader for a busy progressive care unit. We take care of post-op CABG patients, post cardiac cath, chf, and pull arterial sheaths. I have 4 years experience as a nurse. I have 1 1/2 years experience in med/surg at a city hospital. I moved on to a smaller facility and have 2 1/2 years at this facility. When I hired on, the nurse manager immediately put me into a team leader role due to my knowledge and excellent leadership skills. Now the same manager has interviewed me for a nurse manager position over a busy medical unit. I am now going to my second interview that will be peer review with the nurses on the medical floor. I am seeking advice and questions you think I might get asked. I am happy at my current job but feel that I could be a strong leader for this medical floor that primarily consists of new nurses. This is a smaller facility and my home. Thank you in advance!

Post title is a bit misleading..... there is a huge difference between "Peer Interview" and "Peer Review".. the latter involves an investigation of purportedly unprofessional behavior or breach of your Nurse Practice Act. On the other hand, a Peer Interview simply offers your colleagues an opportunity to help select the 'best' candidate for a job.
I would anticipate questions about how you would handle various types of management events & issues. For instance, you may be asked how you would deal with a nurse who is frequently tardy or how you would deal with staff who are arguing about their assignment. You may be asked about how you make sure that you are always 'fair' and equitable in your treatment of subordinates. I would also advise you to review operational P&P related to staffing, grievances, adverse events, etc.... along with any other things that are most commonly referred to in that department. If the organization has Shared Governance, make sure you understand the manager's role - this is a biggie.
Best of luck to you. We need more talented and energetic new managers!!!!
