I am quite happy to report that New York State finally has active legislation for the Nurse Licensure Compact. The three bills that are currently in the state legislature are:
Both the Senate and the Assembly Budget Committees are sponsoring bills for admission to the NLC (S 8007 & A 9007).
Assemblyman Brian Miller sponsored bill AO 4841. He is supported by assemblymen:
Vermont, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey have all joined the compact, and Massachusetts is close to doing so. The Governor of New York (Kathy Hochul), realizes how important this legislation is to the health and well being of all New York residents; she fully supports New York State joining the NLC.
If you have been waiting for a New York NLC bill, write to your legislators and the New York Board of Nursing to show your support. 37 states and 2 territories are now members of the NLC. 7 more states have active NLC bills in their respective state legislatures. It is still early in the 2022 state legislative session; more states will introduce bills.

Yes, I will.
The more people who actively support these bills, the faster NY will become a part of the NLC- especially with the governor's backing. Many people thought that Ohio and Pennsylvania would never pass NLC legislation, and both states joined the Compact last year.
I am, as always, extremely optimistic. The Compact has made my life easier. I can work in 35 states and Guam with just one license, and my pay has increased to a fair amount. My employer knows that it is now quite easy for many of us to take "travel RN"positions, and we will if our non-travel wages are not competitive.
NY still has active legislation to join the Nurse Licensure Compact. Washington State just joined. Pennsylvania has not implemented the Compact yet, but will later this year. Washington and Nevada nurses wrote hundreds of letters to their legislators in support of nurse compact bills. Their voices are making a difference. 38 states are now in the NLC; soon almost all 50 states will be members.
