Howdy!
I saw a similar question from 2015 where a bilingual Nurse asked if she was capable of being an interpreter. Responses ranged from - YES, if she was comfortable with medical conversations, to NO, from those who reported that certain facilities required professional translators.
For those who recommended a certification from an outside organization, has anyone done this and can refer me to the correct program? Every place I have called wants me to take classes when all I am interested in is taking an exam to prove my competence.
I am about to start work at a new hospital, and will inquire as to the process particular to there.
Thank everyone for the help and advice, I just want to help facilitate communication in any way I am able :)

The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpretors requires completion of training specific to medical interpreting, as well as documented proficiency in both English and Spanish.
