Hi,... I quit my job on the east coast....I am now driving across country to move to Las Vegas where my mother lives (I am now in Utah!). I was going to go the travel nursing route, but so far there are no promising jobs. One that was offered was only $22/hr...WHAT??!!! If travel nursing is THAT low, then what are the staff nurses making...$18-20??? Scares me....
Anywho, I am a neuro nurse (non-ICU) with 4 years experience....I would qualify for med surg. What would a hospital typically pay??? I hope my fears aren't true! I want to get my foot in the door at St. Rose, but so far no responses to my application.....anyone have some connections? Any recruiters out there? I thought there was a nursing shortage....

Try North Vista hosp. The area isn't that great & the hosp is small, but they pay better (+ other benies)! I got hired same day. I really like it there! Typical ratio = 5:1. Also try Sunrise Hosp. They have a M/S unit that is neuro exclusively. You can apply online to Sunrise, but make sure you fill out the app, in addition to applying w/your resume & cover page. PM me & let me know if & where you apply & I will give you the name(s) of the NM's, so you can meet them & get a chance to network.

What does North Vista pay?
Any luck finding a position yet?
Sorry about the delay: I've been working a lot of hrs. I dunno about experienced, but as a new grad RN I am making 23.50hr. Wkends= time & 1/2
OT = time & 1/4
I want to say 29 or 31hr?? I'd call HR & ask. The recruiter is really nice & extremely helpful (I got my interview & job w/in the same hr that I walked in)!

I have a friend who works in the Valley health care system and she has told me that the big money is at University medical center. The more certifications you have like acls, tncc, bcls etc the more money they will offer.
I had an interview down there about 5 years ago at St Rose (dominica campus) on a medical unit and they only offered me 21.00 per hour which was ridiculous... back then you couldn't get a house for less than 400,000. I didn't accept the offer because I would have to work everyday all day to afford a home and the bills. My friend did go and work there and she worked and signed a contract for 1 year and she said it was "ok" alot of overseas nurses, who didnt seem anxious to work and would call in sick if they miss placed their keys...? Which she found was odd. One nurse would come in a swip his card and then go home and no one was the wiser, he got paid and someone else would get ot to come in. Anywho........
PM me if you'd like the name of the person who helped me with job/hiring info. Good luck and keep us posted.
