Nurse Corps Scholarship Program?

Published

Hi! I'm currently a new HS grad and a pre-nursing student at my local CC this summer and I will be transferring into a BSN program next summer (I can not wait).

However, I just found out about this NCS program, recommend by my A&P teacher. I told her I will be going to an expensive school that cost 35,790 yearly on average and she said this scholarship would cover it all if I in turn exchange my services to them once I graduate. But what their offering is a little of everything from nursing homes to critical access hospitals ( I don't know what that is though). My question is would this hurt my chances of becoming a CCRN then later in life a CRNA? Or transferring into a ICU once I do get out?

Please respond.

Keep in mind that no scholarship, including this one, is a given- if you look at the program guidance PDF on the website, you will see what their considerations are for granting the scholarship and who receives the greatest consideration.

The school you are looking at is extremely expensive- I completed both my undergraduate and graduate education for only slightly more than you will pay for a single year. As a general rule of thumb, take into consideration that any loans you take out should not exceed what you can expect to make in your first year working as a nurse. You may want to investigate other, more affordable programs in addition to looking for scholarships.

Thank you for your response and yes you are right I should look into more inexpensive schools.
