Nurse Candidate Program and DUINS (Navy)

So I recently got accepted to Stony Brook's nursing program. I was somewhat surprised because it is extremely competitive with most applicants having GPA's in excess of 3.6 in sciences and overall, while my overall was a 3.5 and my sciences was a 3.4. I guess my interview went well, and I would consider my statement as well as my resume to be the strong points.

Now what im curious about is if I am considered competitive enough for the NCP? It would be a fantastic opportunity but I heard it is very competitive. I currently have a 3.45 GPA overall from all my institutions combined as well as experience in lifeguarding, swim instruction, working as a Resident Assistant and other leadership related roles. My recruiter says he believes I am competitive but I am well aware of how difficult it can be to stand out in the sea of applicants. Does anyone have any thoughts about it, or can anyone in the NCP give me feedback as well as tell me what their "credentials" were when applying as long as they are OK with that? I would greatly appreciate it!

My other question is about DUINS. Would it be possible to apply for DUINS one day if I was a Navy Nurse while under the 5 year NCP obligation or would I need to finish the obligation first? I found some conflicting information online.

My recruiter told me I will likely get a decision sometime October or November. If accepted into the two year program I would just swear in ASAP (Probably December or January) and start receiving the stipend then. My nursing program started August 2019 and runs until May 2021.

I was also told you can only apply for one program - either/or. If you get rejected then you are simply rejected, even if there are 1 year spots open.

See, I don’t think any recruiters are ever on the same page! Who knows which are right. I’m at a 4 year school but don’t think that should matter. He said we swear in in January and receive the signing bonus then but no monthly stipend till May so would technically be one year. And he told me you apply and they tell you one or two year by where they want you. Who knows which is true.

Yeah the the approximate date to find out is nov 1. Board meets mid/late October. Last year they found out a day or to before or on Nov 1. The year before they didn’t find out till after thanksgiving. I’m hoping we get the earlier! I know not everyone is notified the same day so one of us may no before another. Not sure why it works like that.

Honestly forget the money. I just want a guaranteed commission and the OCUI2 status haha. The money is just icing on the cake!

Oh yeah, I’m not in it for the money that gets paid. It is nice though!

Hope we all get in!! Also, there's actually a group page on facebook called "US Navy Nurse Candidate Program." Great resource to ask questions!

Actually just joined it today and posted some stuff! I'm sure you'll figure out who I am...haha

Just requested to join! I don’t think I have many questions left. Just wishing we knew already! Hope we all get it!

Just saw your personal statement. Yours destroyed mine! Mine was literally just a paragraph because my guy told me to keep it brief. Now you have me scared! My statement is terrible next to that

Just read your personal statement too! I think you got this! ????

Dont even sweat...you nailed the GPA, the background, the interviews and the educational history. I think you're more than good!

No one has heard anything yet right? Im getting so anxious as it approaches the 31st and onwards!

I haven’t either! And my professors and parents keep asking and it’s killing me. In the past the earliest I’ve ever heard of someone finding out is the 28th! So I’m hoping for Monday!
