NURS 4465 - Vulnerable Populations (starting 8/12/13)

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Getting an early start on the support group thread for the August 4465 class.

I heard it's second only to Research in terms of horror level...though having just survived Research, I'm optimistic about this one--it can only be better than Research was.

I don't think that the first quiz was anything to worry about. I haven't taken the second quiz yet though.

I was already warned about how time consuming this week's assignment would be. I'm dreading it since I'm supposed to fly out for vacation Thursday.

I found an example of how to cite a table in APA so here is the link APA :: Citing a Table

I used all the links that are on the UTA nursing website and didn't find them helpful. The APA book I have explained how to do it, but there was not an example so I was confused. The only thing I am going to have a problem with is that the info in my tables are from several sources.

I got my grade back on the windshield survey! I got an A, but was counted off and there were only two comments, one to be more specific about the boundaries of the area (which said to check the instructions) and the other was "good effort, more detail needed in several areas." So, aside from the fact that there were instructions in multiple places for this assignment, how did you describe your area?

I really wish she would have given me more specific comments, the two I got don't help very much!

I wonder if we have the same AC as the exact same thing happened to me!

Quiz went well...I thought that reading the key points under the quiz review and focusing on the areas of the reading around the questions to think about was key. It's too much reading to focus on too much more.

Still dreading this assignment. Hoping to start tonight or tomorrow night...

It's actually not too bad, mostly a lot of busywork so far. Then again, I just came out of Research so anything in this class doesn't seem too bad to me.

I think the hardest part will be keeping all the data and their sources straight. What is helping me is this: for each table I make, each source gets assigned a color--then as I enter data, I color that cell based on the source the info came from. Then when I'm done compiling the data, I'll go through, APA-ize the tables and remove the coloring.

I hope I can find APA citation tips for tables whose data come from multiple sources.

Great! Thank you. That is not how I was doing it! It seems like the link that they provided for us should have had something about how to cite info in a table. Either way, I'm trying not to let this class get to me. After Research and Health Assessment I can do anything!

Thanks for the tip! What a great way to do it! I'm hoping to start tonight...any time estimates on how long this assignment will take?

Do you think they really read these? The 1st week template I submitted was real crappy. I swear I didn't put much work into it. Probably 1 paragraph for each question. So I was worried when everyone was writing about how many pages they wrote. I still got an A....hmmmm....not complaining. I can see the end. Capstone in September can't come quick enough. I need my life back.

You and me both. I'm already registered for it, just need to pay the tuition.

Oh sweet baby Jesus. I just looked at the 29 pages of directions for this assignment and feel so lost. I'm hoping that I can work on it for about 9 hours tomorrow night and then 6 hours on Saturday night. If 15 hours won't do it then I am out of luck.

Also, I read that the nursing dx has to correspond to the windshield survey but what if the statistical data doesn't support the subjective observation? Should we then pick a dx from the objective/statistical data we have researched?

Furthermore, when it says to find other data as needed - does that mean to research data pertinent to our subjective observations re: dx? For instance, I wrote that the problems in my area were not wearing a helmet while riding a bike and alcoholism (I live in the city in a very college-y area) so would I then find statistical data on helmet-wearing and alcoholism above and beyond what was specifically outlined in the assignment? I swear if I am awake all night doing this assignment after my 16 hour shift tomorrow...

Perhaps you have the talent of being exceptionally concise...which is not a bad talent to have. Most of mine were one paragraph per except for the interviews. I think a lot of the page length has to do with the double-spacing 12-point text we have to use for our responses.

Perhaps I guess. This week is a piece of work so far though. Taking it one at a time. :)
