NRP online course

Is anyone familiar with the Neonatal Resuscitation Program online course? My certification has expired, and I can't work until I renew it. Unfortuntely, the next course offered is a month away. I have heard from three different nurses that there is a way to take an online course/test, followed by a mock code given in person (by my clin. specialist). Does anyone know how I would go about doing this? I neeeeeed to work!

You might want to try to go the American Academy of Pediatrics website and look there for information if an online certficiation is available.

Specializes in Specializes in L/D, newborn, GYN, LTC, Dialysis.

I checked the AAP site and found no online courses whatsoever. How about you ask your nurse educator at your hospital/institution? Good luck to you.

I have heard there was a course like that but trying to find it so that I could take it was more then a challenge. I never did find it. Sounds pretty interesting.

Actually, sorry - now that I read that link in more detail, it looks like your card has to be current to take advantage of the online program.

Why did you let your NRP expire?

Why did you let your NRP expire?

Exactly! Actually, I've been working at my hospital for over 19 years and It has always been that you can renew your certification if it hasn't been 30 days since your old one expired. But, this year the rule was changed and I wasn't aware of it (although I did receive a copy of the new policy with my evaluation this spring. Stupid me - I didn't read the booklet of changes). I had scheduled myself to renew it right before it expired, but I had a conflict with the date and had to cancel. I re-scheduled for the next month, thinking that I had 30 days. My nurse manager informed me of the new rule and said that I couldn't work until I got certified. So here I am. I actually did find the online NRP course noted above and am going to take it. It states that if my old card has expired, I must complete all of the items on the checklist during my mock code. So, I can take it even though I have expired. Thanks everyone.

Oh I see. That page is really worded funny. Seems like two different paragraphs say two different things.
