NRP certification, where do I go?

Hi all,

I'm trying to do everything in my power to be a stand-out candidate for a position in L&D/PP nursing. I read somewhere on this board that getting NRP certified is a good idea. I've googled, and googled, and still can't find a program to attend. Is this certification only offered by hospitals to current nurses, or am I just not looking in the right place? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Many hospitals offer it, you can try the nursing education departments at some facilities in your area. Some are open only to their employees and others permit outsiders to take the course there.

You can also check with some of the companies in your area that provide PALS and ACLS courses, some also will provide the NRP class.

If you haven't seen it, check out www.aap.org/nrp. You can click on Locate a Course or Instructor. Doing a search for VA, I see only courses listed in Mechanicsville. There are several throughout 2008. Not sure how close that is to you.

In my experience, only a small percentage of NRP courses are advertised on that site, but if you search for an instructor in your area, that might be more effective. The site lists people as either HBI (hospital-based instructor) or RT (regional trainer). The people listed as RT's are often education coordinators or others who are involved in planning course schedules, so you might email or call one of those in your area.
