I am interested about the NROTC program and is wondering if anyone is currently going through it for nursing or is about to? Wondering what the process is like.

thanks

-Leslie

Leslie, I just commissioned in May and am currently on active duty in the army nurse corps. I got into the program in my junior year and did it with an accelerated nurse program. Although it can be challenging to do both, the leadership skills and team work you use in the military science courses are very useful in the hospital setting. If you have specific questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them.

So you went through ROTC? Did you get the scholarship?

I'm worried about not getting the scholarship and not passing the physical part...I'm training right now though...

Leslie, Let me first tell you that the majority of rotc cadets are not on scholarship. In my case I was able to do a 2-3 years scholarship with my battalion. A lot of that is based on your schools need for nurse, their allotted amount of scholarship and your physical fitness as well as your grades.

There are several other resources for nursing students, like nursing scholarships with the schools or states that you may be eligible for. I started as an older cadet so my experience was a little different, I actually went to LTC (leadership training course) because I came in my junior year.the physical training.

Work on at least meeting the minimum standard for the physical fitness.

I'm currently working as a nurse recruiter at my school, so any specific questions I can answer for the most part.
