  1. Lindz1125, I'm coming from rotc so I do have the uniform and a friend of mine told me the same thing, that was previously mentioned, that you will wear dress blues twice and they're also on the packing list I was sent, so I think having them is a good idea, especially since you will need them at some point anyway for any formal events you do in the Army (i.e., dining in or dining outs, ceremonies). But I'm definitely excited to go to BOLC, not so much for the long drive out there. I'm driving solo from ohio on the 18th, I'm already working so it'll be like my own little vacation without having to use "leave time." I look forward to meeting all of you experienced nurses, since I'm a new graduate :)
  2. Hi BCurtis, I am a recent graduate of the nursing/rotc program and it is very challenging to balance the two, I actually was doing the accelerated nursing program and didnt join rotc until my junior year of college. I now work as a nurse recruiter til I leave in august for bolc. I feel better prepared for bolc, just because I've been emmersed in the program while doing nursing, so I've gotten really good with time management, as I also was working full time. So to answer your question, scholarships are very competitive, especially for nursing students. Look at schools in the area that have rotc "nurse mission" they are schools that will receive more funding for you. The other thing is look at the nursing school itself, often they have scholarships that are based at the university specific for nursing school. Another way would be to joing national guard/reserve and go in as a smp student and let them pay for it, they're budget is much larger than rotc. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Leslie, Let me first tell you that the majority of rotc cadets are not on scholarship. In my case I was able to do a 2-3 years scholarship with my battalion. A lot of that is based on your schools need for nurse, their allotted amount of scholarship and your physical fitness as well as your grades. There are several other resources for nursing students, like nursing scholarships with the schools or states that you may be eligible for. I started as an older cadet so my experience was a little different, I actually went to LTC (leadership training course) because I came in my junior year.the physical training. Work on at least meeting the minimum standard for the physical fitness. I'm currently working as a nurse recruiter at my school, so any specific questions I can answer for the most part.
  6. I've had my orders since June for the August bolc, but I just graduated and commissioned from nursing and into the army in May. I'm working as a nurse recruiter for my school till I head to ft sam in august, so maybe thats why I got my orders. I also heard that some people wouldn't get their official orders til a month out.

Leslie, I just commissioned in May and am currently on active duty in the army nurse corps. I got into the program in my junior year and did it with an accelerated nurse program. Although it can be challenging to do both, the leadership skills and team work you use in the military science courses are very useful in the hospital setting. If you have specific questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them.
