NPs in Philadelphia

Published

Hi all, I was talking to one of myfriends and told her that I want to become a NP eventually because I like the role of a NP. She told me RNs get pay more, much more and I shouldn't waste my time. I understand where she's coming from; but it's not so much of the money, but then who would want to take another loan out and spend another 2 years, knowing the pay would be so much less and might not even able to find jobs afterall. Like I said, I like what they do. But it kind of get to me and I'm having a second thought now. Do any of you in here are NPs and working in the PHilly or tri-state or even NYC area?

Hello, jls485,:balloons:

I am not sure where your friend receives this information, but, in my area, NPs in clinical practice make far more than RN. Now, the NP in a hospital might not make as much, or be equal to, especially if they are not hired to work in the role of NP. BUt, not "much more", as she/he told you......

You need to do your own investigation regarding this in your area. You migt need to even relocate in order to secure the position/job you desire.

Just research this a little more.

I know that the area was pretty much saturated with pediatric NPs a while back. I had a few friends who were working as staff nurses because they couldn't find jobs in the Philadelphia area as PNPs when they graduated.
