Hello everyone,
I am currently in my last year of my BSW. Although I love social work I have recently started considering nursing. I always thought I would obtain an MSW and then later and MHA or MBA to take on more administrative role in a healthcare setting. Now I am considering becoming an NP. How much counseling does a psych NP do? Talk therapy is what really drew me to social work. Do NP's take on healthcare administrative roles?
Thanks for all your advice

Where I live FMHNP mainly do med management.their time is not allotted for a lot of talk therapy. I have seen a few nps as cno or don but there really isn't a lot of money in those roles.

Crazycatgirl,
I have a similar predicament. I do have a question about why you would want to change from social work, I did my undergraduate in Psychology and wish I did it in Social Work, at least that why I would have more opportunities for careers after undergraduate. I am currently doing my Masters in Health Administration and let me let you know, if you don't have any serious work experience you will be wasting your time.
As far as nursing goes, honestly not sure about that. Hopefully someone else in the field can give their prospective. I was wondering why not go from your PHD in Clinical Psy or even a MSW or MS in Clinical Psy allows you to have that talk therapy that your interested in. Sure when you compare a NP to a MSW salary it is very different but do you want to be stuck in a field that you don't like just because of the money.
Not sure if I helped or maybe even made you more confused but I hope that helps in some way.
