Ortho is not an NP "specialty" per se. You would need to specialize in family, adult, or perhaps acute care. NPs do not generally spend most of their time in the OR. An RNFA (RN First Assistant) would be found in OR. You do not need to be an NP to do that, but you can be. Usually PAs work in OR more than NPs.
I agree, you should consider PA school. Several PAs here work/worked with orthopods and in surgery. A lot work in CT sx, too. They do the harvestings and closings, etc. If you are a technical (hands on) person, you might like that.
I am a recent new grad with a BSN. I was considering looking into the NP profession and was wondering if any NP's specialize in ortho or spend most of the time in the OR?
