NP Salary

Published

Anyone else not see the issue with NPs starting off making $65-85k?! That's terrible! I'm sorry but after np school I will not be settling for that kind of $! I can make that now as an agency nurse with just two years of rn experience! I'm sorry but NP school is not easy and it's a huge responsibility! Why would I settle for $85k while I do half the md work and he makes $200k?! We have to start valuing our education a bit more and not accept that kind of pay! :/

what area do you live in?

that isnt the case for LA area. + it goes solely based

off experience. if you're a person who went bsn, msn without

working, you'll get the bare minimum. but i guarentee you

move up quickly.

What's it like in the LA area? I've heard that in the big cities (i.e. NYC, Boston, DC, LA, etc), it's saturated so it's lower salaries.

I live ib Tampa FL and see a lot of that, salary range being offered. I know its not all about the money but let's face it I have bills and student loans!

It's all about where you live. Here the range is 70,0000- 90,000.

saturated w/ RN's yes. but not many have their masters. so you're always one step up. if you look on google or usajobs.gov you'll see sooooo many NP jobs.

Great point! Clarification. I would not say half but in some settings even the same patient load, sometimes even the same acuity. I understand that MD get paid for their "expertise", not just by amount of work. But below 50%-60% is not fair (saturated market or not). And as you know, the difference in salary will be the "profit" that company can collect partly so that they can afford to pay "higher" MD salary. As people said, "it's all about where you live" If you have kids and no house, you may want to pack up and be more mobile & show them that we can need the better wage..or if you are brave enough.. you can also do locums and travel around the country until getting a fair offer.
