Np pay-am i being ripped off?

Published

I feel that I am payed a low rate for my position. I am a family nurse practitioner working at an independent specialty practice in Ohio. I started out as a new NP grad at $35.50/hr. 401K after working there for the first year, some paid vacations and holidays. I am allowed a certain amount for my continuing education. License renewal fees and are also covered by my employer. I have no other benefits, such as health insurance or disability insurance. I have worked there for over 3 years, and have only had one raise, still making a little over $36/hr. When I was a RN, if you took my insurance benefits into account, I made more than this.

My boss's defense is that he runs a private practice. He is a busy surgeon, so I can't imagine that he's got it so bad that he can barely afford to keep his private practice open.

I am efficient and my patients are very happy with me. I see a lot of new patients, about 3-4 per day, and 15-18 total. After reimbursement adjustments, I bring in $15,000-$20,000/month, so it really seems to me like I am being taken advantage of. I would like to have comparison so I can approach the situation in a confident manner.

I also appreciate any tips anyone has as to where I can research NP pay/salary in Ohio.

Ripped off ! You are been smashed without mercy. Why stay for so long ?

I am sure you know that there are some areas where that rate is low for RN's. As far as salary goes, why become an NP if one does not progress in compensation?
