NP jobs at weight loss clinics ?

Published

Has anyone here ever worked at a weight loss clinic, specifically Medi-Weight loss clinics ? We are having very good success with our obese patients who are going through this program and the NPs who work there seem top knotch in their communications with us. I am curious to know what it is like to work there, salary, hours, etc? I have a background in exercise physiology so the position is interesting to me.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Hmmm one of these places just opened up in my area. Is this like a fasting diet? Special shakes/meals? Is exercise integrated into it?

Specializes in Critical Care, Orthopedics, Hospitalists.

I haven't any experience working in a clinic like that, but my thoughts are as follows: 1) the "patients" are self-pay, which is always a good thing for your salary; 2) the job is most likely 9-5, no w/e, no holidays, which is nice for some (like me! ha); 3) I bet it can be boring after a while, sure you're individualizing the plan, but the differences are pretty minute. But hey, a steady job with a good salary and great hours - I can handle a bit of boring. ;)

Trauma: the main one around here is not a liquid fast program and hires NPs to do initial assessments, interpret labs, EKGs , do some sort of exercise counseling (don't know how much though) and then monitor, manage and communicate with the doc.

Christen...boring doesn't bother me too much, LOL! I've never been an adrenaline junkie so that is not a deal breaker with me!

These are medical weight loss clinics - there is one close to my office. They prescribe phentermine and you can buy their meal replacements/supplements if you want. They also provide weekly B12 shots.

haha, I am fortunate enough to have had my adrenaline junky job, now enjoying my "calmer" job for the time being! I can always switch it up if I need to. :)
