Now the waiting begins.....

Published

So, yesterday was the deadline for applying to the Ivy Tech RN program. NOW THE WAITING BEGINS! In my understanding, it will be late may before we hear anything. Yikes! I don't think I'll have any fingernails left by then...I'll bite them all off! (Maybe I'll have to go buy some). I gues now I just have to focus all my energy on maintaining my A in ANP 102 to be sure I get in. Anyone else a bit nervous?

I of course don't know but, I'd love to hear how clinicals are at different campuses.

I know that many of the LPN clinicals at Logan start at 6:30 am

I'd really like to find out some info about clinicals also. My son is 12, but he has some medical problems and I can't really just have him get himself off to school. Being able to plan far ahead would be a good thing! Anyone know what it's like in Richmond?

I have three boys that are 10,9 and 6 and my daughter is 3. They go to an Edison school here in Indy. My oldest two catch the bus at 6:45. My Kindy boy's bus comes at 7:50 and I have to drop my little off at school anytime between 7:30 and 8:30. If they all went to school at the same time, my mornings would be sooooo much easier!! My fiance is going to see if he can come in an hour late one day a week once clinicals start. Of course, that will only help me if clinicals are one day a week.

I am pretty sure that you do not get to choose clinical days and times. I have a few friends that are in the ASN program and they did not get to choose when they took the classes and clinicals. You basically have to plan your life around that schedule. Luckily I do not have children. They need to make it more flexible for those who do. I could not imagine balancing kids and nursing school. I look up to those of you who are going to!!!

Heather, you may want to try Indy and Columbus also. I know Indy took 30 last fall but they are supposed to be taking more this Fall. They also do a Spring entry class as well....not sure if B-town does that or not. Only taking 10????? Geez!!!!! That stinks~!

THanks for the advice!! Currently I live in Muncie so I couldnt attend all of the information sessions in those areas. I am moving to Bloomington this summer so thats the only one i went to. Hopefully the rumors are false. A couple people said they reserve most spots for transitional students. I guess we will see!! its going to drive me crazy!!! Its a good thing I found this website!

I've been searching all over the internet for the last couple hours trying to find info on the clinical times. No dice so far. This is really gonna drive me nuts until I find out.

Just got back from orientation at B-town.

Clinicals start at 7am. You have to be on the floor and ready to go at 6:45am.

Unfortunately with clinical times, it's not just the school that decides what times students can be there. Clinical space is very hard to find since it is very competitive, especially in Indianapolis. Clinicals at Ivy Tech Indy may start anywhere from 630a-7am. Start earlier, get out earlier and avoid traffic. Start later, stay later and run into traffic. There are occasional clinicals that start at 12pm or 1pm based on no availability earlier in the morning. Gotta go with what's available. Lots of times no one knows what times clinicals start until the week before since the hospitals don't get back until late. It can be very frustrating for everyone, since we have to plan our lives.

Clinicals times and days are planed ivytech but withheld threw the facutly. Everyone starts at 8:00 am in this area. This year the program is new and upto date with other ivytech's state wide so things might be changed by next year. Also you are going to be traveling to some clincal faculities especially if you don't live in town. Some areas are new castle, rushville, winchester, etc. So you will have to plan according. I personally like to car pool especially. Also ivytech does not post their times because they are constantly changing them. good luck getting in the program.

There are a couple of threads on here about clinical schedules for Ivy Tech. I found this in my subscribed threads:

https://allnurses.com/forums/f146/ivy-tech-info-270001.html

I thought there was another thread about it, but I can't find it in my subscribed threads. Maybe you can do a search for it.

I have asked around, and found that the schedule may actually be a little less hectic than what I thought. One person told me she had 8-2 or 3 MTW, half day Th and Fr off. Another person told me that they had two days a week 8-2 or 3(I guess it depends on when you get done), two half days and one day off. This is coming from SB people though. The second person told me some clinicals were evening, which really surprised me because they told me no evenings at the info session.

Indymom4- I also have three boys, 12, 9, 7, and one daughter 3! Isn't it nice having a girl after all the boys?

My girl is fantastic!! She's like a little lime in a bowl full of lemons. LOL

She's rough and tumble just like the boys though. She's learning how to hold her own!

Clinicals...I want to rip my hair out right now. I hate that this program isn't more flexible. They really should be, seeing as most students that go to Ivy Tech are middle aged and have families. I'm stressing over how I'm gonna get my kids off to school in the mornings once I start this program. I'm worried I will end up getting kicked out because I can't afford to pay someone to put my kids on the bus. I'm just real tired of roadblocks and everything having to be a struggle. I've worked so so hard to get where I am. I have 214 points out of 223. And I might not even be able to go if I am accepted.

Ok....washing all that negativity away. I'll make it work somehow because I have to. For now, I'm gonna go sleep on it. I'll stress more after I get the acceptance letter. LOL
