Now People Care When JACHO Shows Up!

I work for a private, drug/alcohol rehab for teens. It is shady every way you look at it. The building is as bad as the practices. I'm only working there because they are super flexible with how much I work. But there are major downsides. JACHO came this week & now everyone is in a hustle to fix things before they are found by JACHO. My boss wanted me to come in just so they would looked fully staffed. How the owners act is just terrible & you can tell it's all about the money for them. They didn't get the AC fixed until they found out JACHO was coming. Even then if it's cold out medical is BURNING UP! I start sweating profusely just sitting there! Ugh.

At my first job, we always knew when JCAHO or any other regulatory agency was coming, because we would have--dare I say it?--adequate staffing levels.

But I would've been the fifth nurse during the day, it's past adequate & to ridiculous.

This is all too common. All of the problems that haven't been fixed in forever suddenly get taken care of. You get staffing the way it should be. Some managers even become helpful.. It's all a joke. Most surveyors know this, or should know if.

Our facility has JCAHO tracers once a month, every month, even in non-survey years. The expectation is that all clinics and units should be JCAHO compliant, all the time.

This is a survey year, and we've been told they will be here in April or May, so we've been doing "JCAHO Jeopardy" at our staff meetings the last few months.

They SHOULD have that, sounds like a great idea! But of course they'd rather just let things fly then JACHO comes & their butts are on fire.
