Nova Southeastern University BSN Entry Level Fall 2017

Published

I noticed there wasn't a article for this so I decided to make one. I applied early toward the end of fall semester in December after final grades were posted and got a interview shortly after. I been so nervous for the past couple of days and I finally received the call 9 days after the interview and I still can't believe it. Anyone out there applying for the fall term?

For those who were accepted in the Miami campus, did you guys receive your acceptance through email or phone? During the interview they specified that they send out letters, but do they also send out any emails or phone calls?

Was your interview at the Miami campus?

I would also like to know! The waiting is killing me.

Hi Everyone!! I've been following all your posts for quite some time. I sent in my application to Nova (JUST NOVA) Dec 2017 for Winter 2018 (a little ahead of myself lol) you guys don't understand all the help this board has done for me and I thank you all! First and foremost, to everyone that has gotten accepted Congratulations, I hope to one day share the joy and excitement you all feel, and to those waiting I am eager to hear from you guys, my application hasn't even been reviewed and I'm just as nervous, hang in there!!

To those who are still with me (for which I'm sure will be a long post) I am a mom of a 2 year old and if I don't get accepted for Winter of 2018 my dreams of becoming a nurse will go down the drain - If you are willing to help i would gladly appreciate it, I'm in the air about the kaplan exam (i bought the kaplan book and its useful for the reading, math, spelling but what do i do for anatomy and physiology do i study all my notes - thats ALOT!!!!) I understand that we should go over our notes from anatomy & physiology, but I want more details, what did you do? What materials and books did you use to help you study? Im going to be honest I've waited so long to get into nursing school that my determination to get in has decreased by a lot, I'm trying to find the motivation because I have the grades, with your help I have some idea of the interview, but to be honest I have no motivation to study for something I have no idea on where to even begin. I want to know what you guys did - I'm all about organization and without some sort of guide I'm lost - I hope you guys understand me!

If you've stayed this far I'm thankful and if you respond I'm grateful.

Sincerely,

An almost discouraged future nursing student :)

I've been in your shoes. I was supposed to been start myself and something always get into the way. I can't believe it's happening now. Just do what you have to do since you have a little while to go. As far as the Kaplan they tell you not to study just for the simple reason you won't know what they're gonna ask. Just go in and take the test and blow the interview away. The interview is most important! My gpa I think is a 3.1 and Kaplan was a 58. And I made it.

Thank you Nurse2018, so you didn't study for the Kaplan at all?

I have an interview on May 16th at the Miami campus. I'm so nervous but excited!

Hi! First, congrats on taking the first step and applying! I have a four year old daughter so believe me, I know what you mean. It's a whole different ball game for mothers, but we can do it! Don't be discouraged.

As far as the Kaplan, I got an 87%. I didn't study at all for the Reading and Writing sections because those are my strong points, but I studied for about two weeks for the Science and then just a few hours on the Math. The Math section is extremely basic. Know how to do percentages, fractions, and there was one questions on dosage calculation. Very easy! The science part was the hardest, I got a 75 on that section even though I studied like crazy for two weeks. I think students who have recently taken A&P will do a lot better. I took A&P I and II waaay back in 2013 so I was extremely rusty. Still, I don't think I did too bad.

Now, I've heard the Kaplan study guide is a waste of money, so I didn't bother buying that. The two books I did buy and studied from religiously were Cliff Notes Anatomy & Physiology Quick Review, and Davis's Basic Math Review for Nurses. I got both from Amazon and they were pretty cheap. They both had everything you could possibly need to brush up and more. I've always been terrible with math so I had the need to study, but if you know how to add, subtract, multiply, divide fractions, and can do percentages then the math section will be a breeze. I recommend it only if you're like me and need step by step examples. And by the way I got like a 93% on the math so the book works!

As for the interview, I am not sure how well I did which is probably why I haven't been accepted yet but I'm holding out hope that my GPA and Kaplan scores will sway them in the end, otherwise I'll have to do this all over again and just hope I get in for the winter semester like you. Anyway, the whole day was a breeze right until they called me to interview, in that moment my brain completely froze and I had a hard time finding the right words. I really hope they realize I was just nervous and don't hold that against me, but who knows. I know they want you to be yourself and be confident with your responses. They asked me to tell them about myself in a minute, and what I would recommend is that whatever you share about yourself is tied to nursing somehow, they want to see you really want this! There were a few scenario questions, so for those just answer as honestly as possible.

I hope I've helped you a bit, I really hope you get an interview and get accepted! Best of luck!!

I have an interview on May 16th at the Miami campus. I'm so nervous but excited!

Good luck!!! That's where I interviewed too. Still no answer though and it's been two weeks and 2 days. I'm starting to lose hope :(

Do not lose hope. You did great on your Kaplan and I am sure you did just fine in the interview. Keep calling. I'm sure you will get in!

Are we allowed to use a calculator for the math portion? If so, would I have to take my own?

Thank you, I really hope you're right! As for the calculator you don't need to take your own, there's a pop-up one while you're taking the test.
