Hi everyone! I am currently taking the Pre req class for the LVN program staring in April. Our Pre req class is mostly bio science and a&p. I am having trouble with remembering the information. I have failed my last two tests. Can anyone suggest some methods of studying that work for you? So far I am reading and writing notes and re reading my notes.

I know how frustrating that may be. When reading are you reading out loud? Sometimes that helps. Also, make flash cards and glance at those whenever you get a chance. Do a search on Allnurses you may be able to find other suggestions.
Hang in there. All the best to you.

You have to learn a lot of new terminology in science classes. If you don't learn the vocabulary, you're sunk. One of the things that helps me is to keep a list of every new word I read in each assigned unit. I open a word document on my computer, and add to it as I read. Then go find the definition of each unfamiliar term and add it to the document. If I don't know the meaning of the term the next time I encounter it, I go back to my list for the definition. After repeating that a few times, the words sink in.
Another thing that helps is putting words into familiar songs and singing them repeatedly. In A&P I made up a little tune about the sternocleidomastoid muscle and sang it over and over again. I even made up a stupid little dance to go with it. I know it's nerdy but will never forget the name or location of the muscle. It was an effective way to remember a string of sounds that otherwise would have sounded like nonsense syllables to me.
Thank you for your advise! I will start to make flash cards And read out loud to see if that helps. Thanks for your imput!
Thanks Raviepoo. That is an awsome idea I will do that tonight. Make a list of the new words.... Thanks so much!!!

there have been some really good suggestions here; you also want to remember that repetition is your friend. My A&P professor stressed reading each chapter three times. Now, I realize this is time consuming, but my practice was to read the chapter three to four times, highlight all of the important info and then, on my fourth read through, note all of my highlighted text (passed both sections with A's). With courses that aren't as demanding as A&P, I am sure that the repetition in itself would help out a lot because studies have shown that cramming just doesn't work. You must familiarize yourself with the chapter by reading it several times; It's very interesting because on the first read-through one is kind of confused and iffy on what all they just covered, by the last one, you will have a much better understanding of it and will pretty much know what is coming up before you even turn the page.
Keep us posted & let us know if this helps!
