Hey guys, I am currently a pre nursing student at a Community College. Long story short...I messed up my freshman year...retook almost all of my class... Have a 3.4 gpa if you take my highest grades only...and a 3.5 (possibly 3.6 if I get an A in micro this summer) in science gpa. I made an 87 in the HESI and have not taken the TEAS. I applied last fall 2013 for this past spring 2014 semester to UTMB and UTHSC. I obviously got rejected by both since at the time I had like a 3.2 gpa and a 3.5 science gpa. Ok sorry ...so now I applied to Chamberlain for September 1 and I am waiting to hear back. However, I;ve read so many negative things I am seriously doubting...but at the same time I'm scared to wait a semester more if I apply to TWU..and UTHSC again and get rejected AGAIN and lose another school year...any advice? I have volunteered in several hospitals and even in Thailand for a month in hospitals there. Thank you! The fact that these two schools (UTHSC/TWU) do not care for resume, recommendation letters makes it even harder to get in since they only see grades. thanks again for any advice and I'm sorry for such a long message.

What is your actual GPA and what are the requirements for the schools you're looking to apply to?
my actual gpa: 3.0
science gpa: 3.6
if you only take my highest grades of the classes I retook (which are first year courses like politics): 3.44
requirements are taking 2 politics, a fine arts class, 2 english classes, 2history classes, sociology, philosophy, intro to psych, developmental psych, college algebra, bio, microbiology, chemistry, ap 1, ap 2, nutrition and stats.
I'm only missing nutrition and stats for a state university but for Chamberlain if they accept me I'd take nutrition and stats with them.
thanks!

Those schools are uber-competitive so it's unlikely that your GPA will make the cut. Is it possible for you to expand your horizons & attend a BSN school outside this area? All the UT programs are very competitive. Lamar University in Beaumont has a great well-established program. Sam Houston State (Huntsville) has a new program - first grads last year.
As you probably already know, Chamberlain is DeVry - one of the for-profit education conglomerates that is facing problems due to increase Federal scrutiny. If they don't pass muster, they will lose access to Federal funds which accounts for about >80% of their total revenue. This already happened to the Corinthian Colleges group (Everest, WyoTech, etc) - they went belly up in early July, leaving an enormous number of students in the lurch.
Best of luck to you.
Thank you so much for your input HouTx. I know UT's are very competitive. I will not be taking any type of loans/funds for Chamberlain, my parents are paying for my nursing school. I am waiting to hear if I am accepted into Chamberlain for this september. If not, I will definitely apply to Lamar or Sam Houston. However, I heard Sam Houston was hard to get in, too. What do you think? Besides the money issue in Chamberlain, are they really a bad school? I've read so much on them I'm a little confused. Thanks again!!
