I have been working for a homecare agency for about two months now. I visited one patient with dementia 4-5 days a week. The pay was pretty good for me.
Because the patient's dementia had gotten worse, the RN changed the schedule in the middle of the month. She wanted the aides for the midnight shift to come to work earlier so it wouldn't confuse her anymore.
A CNA (I'll call her Sherry) called me to let me know of the change. Sherry is also in charge of doing the scheduling.Initially, when she told me about the change I said I wouldn't be able to do it, then in the middle of the conversation I said I will work something out and get back with her soon.
I worked something out and called back THAT day. She did not pick up. Fine. I left a message. Then I called the next day. I spoke with her, and she told me to talk to the RN about it. It takes awhile to get to the RN because she is often busy. By the time I got to the RN, she told me that I need to talk to Sherry about it and that it's probably too late to get me back on the schedule.
I called Sherry later that day only for her to get sassy with me and say "I can't wait on you, the schedule has already been done". I understand that. But I called her back promptly, only for her to play a game of ping pong telling me to call the RN about something that she could have taken care of with me. I feel that she did this to stall things for me so she could take my hours.
Anyway, I was told that I will be put on September's schedule. Well, it's the 25th and September is right around the corner. I called Sherry last week to see if she is working on next month's schedule. She says "I don't know. And I don't even do the scheduling anymore."
I was kinda happy to find this out because I found her to be unprofessional anyway, attitude and work performance wise.
I called the agency about the schedule for next month and the receptionist tells me to talk to Sherry about it. Well, Sherry told me that she doesn't even do the scheduling anymore. The receptionist says that she doesn't know anything about that, and as far as she knows she is still in charge of it.
I speak with the RN (she is in charge of the company), and she tells me the same thing. Speak to Sherry. I told the RN what I told the receptionist. Sherry said she is not in charge of the scheduling anymore. The RN who is in charge of the darn company is out of the loop about this. And since it's the RN's day off, she said that she cannot help me at the moment because she is not in the office and she's out with her family.
I called Sherry back several times to address why the company does not know that she is no longer in charge of the schedule. Of course, she has not picked up her phone. I left a message once. I feel that when I do get in touch with her, the schedule will be done and I won't be on it.
I feel that the CNA does not want to share hours with me in particular, maybe she was getting more money before I was hired. I don't know what's going on. But I have been upset about this because I am having financial troubles right now since I had not worked in a while. I came to work everyday, was very dependable, good attitude, what more do they want? I have been looking for other work but so far no luck. I know eventually someone will probably hire me but this has really put a dent in my pockets.

Sounds disorganized.
Arrange to speak to the RN - because Sherry is telling you that she is not in charge of the scheduling.
Are there some other agencies around that you could work for?
Hope things turn out okay.
I am going to have to visit the office when she's back in office--which will be a few days. I fear that the RN will tell me that the schedule was just 'done' a few days ago. I have been filling out other job appliations but I was hoping I'd get another paycheck out of them. Jobs are just not easy to come by anymore
